The most immediate need is for food and clean water. This group of workers is serving meals at GFA's Bible College in Yangon (Rangoon). Everyone, from the oldest to the youngest, gets something to eat. Many of the people who lost their homes in the cyclone came to the Bible college for assistance. They have been living there ever since. In the days after the cyclone, GFA workers spread out in the affected areas, looking for other people who needed help. They offered food and medical supplies to everyone they could. A relief effort this large means that every available GFA worker is helping with whatever needs to be done, from preparing and serving food, to first aid, to just listening to the people tell their stories. With 400 churches in Myanmar, GFA was able to rally its resources and help thousands. In this situation, the people are finding comfort in receiving even the simplest necessities, as well as in the love with which the aid is being shared. The relief effort in Myanmar is far from over. Millions are still homeless. And while they are receiving the basic necessities, their futures are uncertain. GFA workers in Myanmar are committed to continuing to help them restore their lives, and to tell them about a God who will bring true peace and comfort. date posted 06/01/08 |
